Make a product demo video on a Mac
A good demo video shows one task from start to finish, with a calm voice that explains each step. Here is how to make one on your Mac, without rehearsing every click.
Plan it first
Before you record anything, answer three questions:
- Who is it for, and what one task does it show?
- What are the steps, in the order a new user would do them?
- Where will it live? A demo on your homepage works best under a minute. A tutorial in your docs can be longer, but keep it to one task.
Two ways to make it
Let your agent make it
Ask Claude Code or Codex for the demo. It writes the lines and the clicks, and StageMaster performs them in your app while it records. To change something, change that line and record again. Step by step.
Record it yourself
Press record and use your app as you normally would. After a three-second countdown, StageMaster brings your app to the front and records it. Click the red timer in the menu bar to stop. Then type the lines you want spoken. More on voiceover.
Finish it in the editor
Everything a demo needs is in the same window:
- Trim the start and the end.
- Zoom in on small things, like a menu or a field.
- Subtitles, for people who watch with the sound off.
- A background around the window, with padding and rounded corners.
Then export an MP4, or upload it to YouTube from the app.
Tips for a clear demo
- Use clean demo data. Real-looking names and numbers, and nothing private.
- Set the window size once. Make the window the size you want in the video, and leave it there between takes.
- Say what the screen shows, while it shows it. When the voice runs ahead of the screen, viewers get lost.
- Show one task. Three short videos are easier to follow than one long one.
Try it on your own app.
